Why Republic Day Is Celebrated?

As we all know that 26 January is celebrated as Republic Day and there is Parade also known as “JHAKI” on Raj path but there is question that arises in our mind that why Republic Day is celebrated on 26 January?. So let’s have a look for this question…

Why Republic Day Is Celebrated:-

Republic Day 26th January

On January 26, 1950, the Constitution of India, drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, came into force and replaced the Government of India Act, 1935, as the governing deed of the country, carrying out the transition towards becoming a sovereign democratic republic.

The constitution was passed on November 26, 1949. However, because the Indian National Congress (INC) had passed a resolution in 1930, fixing January 26 as the Republic Day, the assembly, after passing the constitution, decided to wait till January 26, 1950, to bring it (the constitution) into force.

The Constitution gave the citizens of India the power to choose their own government and smooth the way for democracy. Dr. Rajendra Prasad took oath as the first President of India at the Durbar Hall in Government House and this was followed by the Presidential drive along a five-mile route to the Irwin Stadium, where he unfurled the National Flag called “TIRANGA”.

From that day this date is National Holiday and is celebrated with our National Anthem “Jana Gana Mana”.
